The African Professionalisation Initiative (API) is the continent’s leading force in public financial management (PFM) professionalisation. Working to deliver impact across all 54 African countries, and in partnership with PAFA, AFROSAI-E, AAAG, and CREFIAF, we empower public institutions to lead with integrity, innovation, and impact. Our programs include certification courses, digital transformation support, and major events such as the PFM Visionary Summit.

The Role: Exciting & Career Enriching
This is a unique opportunity to take on a finance-focused position with a strategic coordination component. The role combines core responsibilities in management accounting with support for the coordination of online meetings, workshops, and stakeholder sessions—all of which contribute to strengthening public institutions and promoting ethical governance across the continent.
- Management Accounting (60%)
- Prepare accurate monthly cost reports and donor financials (AfDB, SIDA, etc.).
- Develop and monitor budgets for events and other programmatic activities.
- Maintain finance records for students and ensure accurate revenue accounting.
- Process vendor invoices, track expenditures and manage supporting documentation.
- Assist with grant financial reporting and audit preparations.
- Coordination Support for Program Activities (40%)
- Support the logistical and financial tracking of online and in-person events (e.g. training sessions, stakeholder meetings and donor briefings).
- Track delegate payments and sponsorships, including the management of early-bird or discounted fees.
- Coordinate sponsor deliverables post-payment (e.g. branding, visibility packages).
- Monitor event-related expenditure against budgets and assess value for money on key initiatives.
This is a growth-oriented role, ideal for a finance professional with an interest in program coordination and digital engagement. As you grow, you’ll have the opportunity to expand into project financial reporting, stakeholder funding engagements, and innovative approaches to virtual program delivery.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance.
- At least 2 years’ experience in a finance or project support role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas) and accounting software (QuickBooks/Xero).
- Familiarity with event management practices, tools, methods and systems.
- Strong communication, execution and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Part-qualified CA or CPA or CIMA or Accounting Technician.
- Understanding of public sector frameworks & programmes (e.g., IPSAS, PFM, IFRS etc.).
- Bias for action – Great execution track record.
- Fluency in English and good French would be a plus.
Work Performance Expectations
- 95%+ accuracy in event budgets and financial reports.
- 90%+ positive feedback from event sponsors and vendors.
- 20% reduction in invoice processing time within the first six(6) months.
